Utility Engineer

Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and test the utility systems that keep our plant running safely and efficiently. Your work will cover boilers, chillers, water treatment, hot water, power and nitrogen generators, compressed air, air conditioning, and utility consumption monitoring.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair utility systems and equipment, including boiler and chiller plant systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on utility equipment and systems, including required lubrication activities.
  • Perform water and chemical tests, determine appropriate chemical feed rates, and adjust rates as required.
  • Inspect equipment, piping, valves, and controls for leaks, abnormalities, and operational issues.
  • Clean and maintain mechanical components and utility equipment as required.
  • Monitor utility systems, including chillers, boilers, IO systems, air compressors, water softeners, and other related systems and components.
  • Conduct routine rounds and maintain accurate log sheets for boiler, chiller, and other utility systems.
  • Monitor utility consumption and report abnormal usage or significant variations to the Utility Team Leader.
  • Ensure critical preventive maintenance work orders are completed within the required timelines.
  • Perform inspections, testing, and operational checks of utility equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Maintain and support the operation of emergency generators during power outages.
  • Identify equipment abnormalities and support troubleshooting and corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Support the implementation of preventive and corrective actions arising from equipment failures, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance requirements, recurring failures, and potential improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, utility consumption, and operational readings.
  • Coordinate with the Utility Team Leader and relevant departments regarding utility requirements, equipment issues, and maintenance activities.
  • Support utility-related modifications, improvements, testing, and commissioning activities as required.
  • Prepare accurate and timely utility reports and contribute to relevant KPI monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with approved utility procedures, safety requirements, environmental standards, and technical guidelines.
  • Ensure the security, confidentiality, and integrity of information assets within assigned responsibilities in accordance with the company’s Information Security Policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Utility Team Leader or Technical Manager.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of relevant experience in utility operations, maintenance, or engineering within a private-sector organization, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, FMCG, or processing environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and HSE teams.
  • Good teamwork, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and safety requirements.
