Insurance & Claims Officer

Role Overview

To manage all cargo insurance operations efficiently, ensuring that all shipments are adequately insured, financial records are accurately reconciled, and insurance claims are processed in a timely manner. The role acts as a key coordination point between Logistics, Finance, and insurance providers to minimize risk and ensure compliance with contractual and financial obligations.

 

Duties and responsibilities

· Manage cargo insurance requests through the designated insurance platform.

· Issue, review, and verify insurance certificates and policies for all shipments.

· Ensure all shipments are properly ensured in line with contracts and Incoterms.

· Maintain daily communication with local and international insurance providers.

· Follow up on pending insurance requests, amendments, and required documentation.

· Coordinate with logistics and costing teams to ensure accurate shipment details.

· Support and manage cargo insurance claims (damage/loss cases).

· Prepare and submit claim documentation (B/L, invoices, survey reports, etc.).

· Follow up with insurers until claims are settled.

· Perform periodic financial reconciliation with internal Finance and insurer’s Finance teams.

· Monitor and manage insurance credit limits and utilization.

· Ensure alignment between issued policies and invoiced premiums.

· Prepare periodic reports (insured shipments, claims status, credit utilization).

· Identify, report, and escalate risks, discrepancies, or gaps proactively.

Ideal Candidate Profile

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. An accounting/Finance background is strongly preferred.

· 2–4 years of experience in finance, insurance, or logistics-related roles.

· Experience in cargo/marine insurance or trade operations is an advantage.

· Basic knowledge of cargo/marine insurance principles.

· Understanding of Incoterms and international trade processes.

· Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (reconciliation, reporting).

· Familiarity with insurance platforms/systems is a plus.
